Ceremony-Rohnert Park/pageninetynine-Document #05/Coming Clean-2009 Demo

righty-o lets get right into this next one! first we have the newest album by the hardcore-punk band Ceremony. now from most everyone i've talked to this album was a miss for Ceremony. in order to give proper prospective on this you would need to have listened to Ceremony before this album, because Ceremony is usually a straight-up fast, thrashy, angry, hardcore-punk band. but this album differs in that sense because it is NOT a straight-up fast, thrashy, angry, hardcore-punk album. upon first listening to this album i hated it... then i gave it another listen afterwords... i found it to literally be one of the best albums i've heard since i first listened to Black Flag or The Germs! [yes it is good enough to be compared with Black Flag and The Germs] now i know your saying to yourself at this point 'fuck you, theres no way its that good'. well thats why i'm here, to tell you that is is, and then give you the means to listen to it and FUCKING LOVE IT like i do. now when the album starts with the track 'Into The Wayside Part 1' you automatically get a weird vibe from it, slow and brooding and whatnot. then it goes straight into the next track Sick, which is an awesomely written punk song. and not like a new-age punk song like Battle! or any other modern punk band. more like Black Flag age of Hardcore-Punk. then it goes into the next track 'M.C.D.F' which sounds almost pop-punk worthy because of its upbeat riffs. then the next notable track is 'The Doldrums [Friendly City]' and its like... alt-rock or something. but it sounds AMAZING. the rest of the album follows suit to the old hardcore-punk status. it is a great listen to those who are fans of 80's hardcore. from old fans of Ceremony and from people who have listened to them a bunch [like me] the opinion is that it is either a real miss for Ceremony or they should have put another name on the album other than Ceremony. i give this album a 9/10. at least listen to it once.

second album for this post is Document #05 by hardcore-punk/screamo band pageninetynine or PG. 99. now i would label this 'emo', but more like FUCKING AWESOME EMO. i've seriously never heard an emo band this good. i found this album through a mutual friend and it was an instant love of mine. most critics say that Doc #05 is the best PG. 99 album ever, because this was when they were at their pinnacle. they also say that their best song is on this album, the song being 'My Application To Heaven'. now when i heard that song i could FEEL the emotion in it. and then i went on a search to find the lyrics... every site i found only had the first 30 seconds of the songs lyrics, always ending on the line 'fuck you jesus'. powerful though it may be i still cant decipher the rest of the lyrics. so i found one of the old lead singers on facebook and asked him, but to no avail, he had forgotten most all of the lyrics from that band. and at the moment i'm waiting for another one of the singers [which the first lead me to] to respond to an email i sent to him, i will update this post as soon as i get the full lyrics [i wanna put the lyrics up cuz they are fuckin powerful]. anywho, i personally give this album a 10/10 a MUST OWN for anyone who is a fan of hardcore punk/good screamo music.

ok last album for this post is from a band that used to play local shows in Charleston, SC. they are called Coming Clean and they are a sludgy, hardcore-punk band. CC broke up about a few months ago for reasons unknown to me. the writer of the lyrics Curtis, has been in 1 or 2 bands that i've seen live many times but CC has to be the best. the best as in like one of the best bands i've ever had the privilege to see. everytime i saw them i just got so hyped and loved every second of their set. the one song that stands out to me in this demo is 'V', especially the last few lines. 'the holes in the sky keep getting bigger, the air its running thinner. so take a deep breath because it may be your last, fuck the present, fuck the future, fuck the past.' these lyrics impacted me so much to the point where i decided that they are going to be my first tattoo [spiraling down my right leg, starting at the knee]. so if you're in the mood for some low-fi passion filled hardcore-punk. get this album now. 11/10 a must hear before you die. i'll leave you now with youre new-found hardcore-punk albums. until next time, enjoy.

Andrew Jackson Jihad

ok so this one is about the Folk-Punk/Anti-Folk band 'Andrew Jackson Jihad', more specifically the album 'People That Can Eat People Are The Luckiest People In The World'. i got into this band a few months ago, and they instantly became an obsession of mine. this is about as folky as you get in the 21st century, next to bands like Ghost Mice. this band differs from others because of first off, they don't use electric equipment except for mics, its all acoustic and a sparse drums. they lyrics are very inspiring and have a very lighthearted feel to them. if you are a fan of Bob Dylan or Woddy Guthrie i'm sure that you will love this album as much as i do. i give this one a 10/10. a must have for fans of folk.

Stalaggh

aight people, this next band is a weird one. i discovered them last night and they have been plaguing my mind for the last few hours. they are called 'Stalaggh', named after a concentration camp during WW2. they added the extra 'g' and 'h' to represent 'global holocaust' they are what is called a 'black noise' band, if you really want to call them a band. they 'lyrics' are done by actual mental patients, and the 'lead singer' was a mental patient who actually stabbed his mother to death 30 times after he was molested for years and years by his uncle. he has as of i'm guessing '07 died from a car crash [the reason i say 'guessing' is because this band has no reliable info source they dont even have an official myspace]. any who there are no real 'lyrics' its just crazy screams and depraved moans along with some choking sounds accompanied by static and harsh noise. from a general consensus most people think this 'band' uses the mental patient thing as a gimmick. but others [i.e. hardcore fans and people who like weird noise such as myself] think its a very creative thought process that delves into the human mind and provokes thoughts of insanity in its listeners. i'm not saying they are a band who's example should be followed, i'm saying its unique. the album i listened to [and will be linking you to], Projekt Misanthropia, is just one 35 min track of screams, moans, choking, ect. it is said that the 'lead singer' was almost killed during the recording of this album as to, and i'm quoting from the fanmade myspace page. this album was recorded in 3 parts; the first being in an abandoned factory where the band and mental patients were allowed to smash everything in sight, they put up microphones and recorded this for 3 hours. the second part was recorded in the chapel of an old monastery where they told the owner of the church that they were doing 'scream therapy' with the 7 mental patients they 'obtained'. the third was the guitar and drums, the band says they didnt write riffs at all, they just went by the recordings of what they had of the screaming and smashing of things. this band is truly a weird one, they say their music is all about their ideology [i.e. misanthropy and nihilism]. this music is suppose to make you feel like a walking meat puppet, a shell of a useless thing.
with all of that said, i will leave you to listening to 'Projekt Misanthropia'.
and remember,
keep the lights on kiddies...
i give this an 8/10 btw.

HeavyHeavyLowLow-Turtle Nipple & The Toxic Shock/Pig Destroyer-Prowler In The Yard

so yea, HHLL has to be one of my newest obsessions music wise. this is the newest album by them entitled, 'Turtle Nipple & The Toxic Shock'. this HHLL album keeps to the psychedelic feel that they've been known for for the last few years. it also includes a cover originally by one of my favorite bands Black Flag, the song is 'Wasted' by the way [they did an excellent job on covering it]. its pretty much what you would expect from HHLL at this point in their career, they add in a bit more of Noise influence and tone they psychedelic stuff up a bit. my favorite song on the album is 'Please, That Bitch Will Outlive Us All' the actual song is about 2 mins long then the outro to it has a loop of this sound, and every loop it gets slower and slower. it goes on for about 15 mins eventually turning into really weird noise. i find myself able to zone out during this song... but i give this album a 9/10, the reason it doesn't get a 10 is because i can't tell what but i feel they need to add something to it... it feels a bit uncompleted...

ok this second album is 'Prowler In The Yard' by the Gridcore band 'Pig Destroyer'. this album is one of the most unique i've heard in a while, it has badass music along with a sort of story told in the 'microsoft sam' voice about a girl named Jennifer. the lyrics are very very weird, and they are either random as hell or have some very deeper meaning that you will have to sit and pine about by yourself, because i'm not explaining it all here, but a lot have to do with life and death. anyway, all of the songs stick to the same grind format; great weird chord progression, very very nice drum fills, the guitar will breakdown while the drums keep the exact beat not breaking down at all ect. about 90% of the songs aren't anymore than 2mins long at the most. in my opinion the song which also happens to be the longest on the album, 'Piss Angel', is one of my favorites. it plays through the song, then ends the story about Jennifer, then goes into this weird eerie sort of thing that will scare you if you don't turn on the lights. this album gets a 10/10 from me. Pig Destroyer-Prowler In The Yard is God-Tier.

Portal; australian avant prog/black metal/technical death metal

this album is friggin great. has a lot of good drumwork. the guitars are kindof droney but they throw in a small bit of progression in there. this band is creepy through and through. their singer, The Curator, wears this awesome headgear that looks like a coo coo clock haha. his vocals consist mostly of low growls. very scary at times. the best place to listen to this band; a small dark room:D. i'll link ya'll to the album i first listened to and the one that i think really gives justice to their sound
this album is called Outre' and its AWESOME.

First Post/About The Writer

Oi! I'm Chris Crass [no not the anarchist writer I got the nickname from a friend]. I'm from Charleston, SC [Holy City!]. I love music. All kinds of music, not just hard and fast. Old Country, Old Hip-Hop, Power-Violence, Hardcore Punk [and all the variations thereof], modern day 'Hardcore', Folk/Folk-Punk/Anti-Folk, Pop-Punk, Black Metal [and all the variations thereof], Blues, Grind, Electronic, Industrial [and all the variations thereof], and well you get the fuckin' idea. I'm a genre Nazi if you can't already tell. In this blog I will be talkin' about all the music I am into and the music i discover on a hopefully every few days basis. I will hopefully be able to find everything on MediaFire so you can listen to exactly what I'm listenin' to, and I will analyze the shit out of it. I will talk about the shows I have been to and will go to. By the way, the title of this blog [Gore Appeal if you can't read it on the top] is a song from a NoiseCore band called Die Monitr Batss. The goal of this blog is to log my tastes in music over the next few months and hopefully years, I would love if ya'll read regularly and downloaded when you can. In closing, I went to see Between The Buried And Me tonight, they were actually ok this time around, FYI I've seen them 4 times including this one. They are a good sortof Post-Hardcore band i guess. Go look 'em up, if you're like me you might enjoy it. Til' next time, Peace!
By The Way; I'm putting a link to my favorite BTBAM album below, enjoyyyyy;]
